When looking becoming a wheelchair user it seems like options get slim for functional interior choices, especially when it comes to adaptable kitchens.
The customer is often left with the short end of the stick and let’s face it, un-aesthetically pleasing designs.
Izzy Hussain, is a full-time wheelchair user, aged 34 who suffered a spinal injury.
Izzy’s previous kitchen wasn’t accessible, and she wasn’t able to cook independently. Izzy reverted to using a camping hot plate and an MDF worktop just so she could have the ability to cook for herself.
Having independence within her home was the ultimate goal, and she says “I now have the freedom to cook what I want, when I want and this new style of kitchen allows me to be independent and spontaneous, which is really important for me”.
Izzy’s Occupational Therapist; Zoe provides necessary support following Izzy’s spinal injury and also helped oversee the design process following the purchase and transformation of her bungalow.
Together they came up with some non-negotiable features, including;
*An island
*Essential storage Options
*Inclusive Appliances
*Pull out features
*Separate Utility Room to name a few…
Izzy’s new kitchen allows her to host friends and family with ease, as entertaining is a big part of Izzy’s life.
I think you’ll agree… the finished result is breathtaking!
